In Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom trailer, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman joins forces with his Atlantean half-brother Orm Marius to mobilize an army to protect underwater realms from the vengeful Black Trident-wielding Black Manta.
The two-minute-46-second video has Momoa’s Arthur Curry discussing his journey from jobless, homeless wanderer to Aquaman and King of Atlantis. We watch him caring for his baby and embracing both his new family and his underwater realm.
About The Movie: ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’
The clip features Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta, who wishes to avenge his father’s murder by finally defeating Aquaman. Manta now possesses the legendary Black Trident, which summons an ancient and deadly entity. Aquaman goes to his imprisoned brother Patrick Wilson’s Orm Marius, the former King of Atlantis, to defeat him.
As they fight, Arthur’s family, who lives above the sea, is drawn into the struggle when they are attacked by dangerous underwater animals. Mera, the Queen of Atlantis and Aquaman’s wife, played by Amber Heard, is absent from the trailer.
The picture, directed by James Wan, who previously directed the 2018 Aquaman, stars Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Nicole Kidman. It is produced by Peter Safran, Wan, and Rob Cowan, with executive producers Galen Vaisman and Walter Hamada.
On the surface, this appears to be a film capable of blowing everyone’s mind with eye-popping, supercharged underwater pixel bombs. There are metastatic fantastical beasties from the depths, flashback slo-mo combat a la Lord of the Rings, and ornate and beautiful aqua-mech. But there’s also a sense that if Wan and company truly had something to brag about, they would have held back on the big water cannons until we got a chance to see the movie. Or, at the very least, something a little more subtle.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will hit the theatres on December 20.
