Meg 2: The Trench
Logic is not a strong point of Meg 2: The Trench — and that’s okay I Think
But remember, don’t delve too deeply into complex analysis. The storyline might be unclear, and character development may be lacking. Even the humor can be inconsistent. However, the captivating cast, especially with Statham reprising his role as Jonas Taylor, manages to make it work. Nevertheless, the primary focus of Meg 2: The Trench is all about providing unrestricted entertainment and the exhilaration of diving into a chaotic underwater adventure.
Anticipate critical analyses discussing how Meg 2: The Trench symbolizes a decline in the standards of contemporary cinema.
I’m already dreading the influx of critical articles and reviews flooding the internet after the film’s release, analyzing the current state of blockbuster movies and questioning whether their quality is declining. Critics are likely to point out the prevalence of CGI-driven spectacles and criticize the lack of depth in storytelling, and to some extent, these concerns may be valid.
However, it’s important to remember that B-movies and pure escapism have their place in cinema. Films like Meg 2: The Trench offer a refreshing escape from reality, appealing to our innate desire for excitement and adventure. They cater to an audience seeking unadulterated entertainment and a break from the mundane aspects of life. There’s a certain charm in such B-movies, reminiscent of classic aquatic horror films from the past century, evoking a sense of nostalgia.
The truth is, those who bought tickets for this movie are seeking a thrilling giant shark adventure, and that’s precisely what they’ll get with Meg 2: The Trench. The climactic scene where Statham takes on the megs one by one all by himself is an awe-inspiring spectacle that adds to the overall fun and enjoyment of the film.

Of course, the film is not just about sharks, with the original doing a great job of unpacking Jason Statham’s Jonas Taylor as a character. We expect to see more of this in the sequel, with Jonas nearly sacrificing his own life at the end of the first movie, and the ramifications of this on his family and friends likely to have ripple effects as we enter The Meg 2. There is plenty to be excited about for fans of the original, with much more aquatic action and adventure to be had for sure.

In an interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub, the film’s producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura teased what fans can expect from the sequel.
Making of Meg 2: The Trench
Behind the camera, the most notable change from the first film comes at the helm, with director Jon Turteltaub being replaced by British director Ben Wheatley (Sightseers), who will hopefully put his many years of directorial experience to good use in this sequel. The sequel’s screenplay has been written by the first film’s writers Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, and Dean Georgaris.
Randy Greenberg and Catherine Xujun Ying are the executive producers, with Belle Avery and Lorenzo di Bonaventura as producers, Kenneth Atchity and Chi-Li Wong as associate producers, Cliff Lanning as a co-producer, and Atchariya Pinitsanpirom as a line producer. The movie’s cinematography is by Haris Zambarloukos, with film editing by Jonathan Amos.
Meg 2: The Trench Release Date
Currently in post-production, The Meg 2 has set itself a target release date of August 4, 2023. Of course, as with many other movies, this could potentially change, especially when one considers that the first movie had a delayed release, although diehard fans will be hoping for the date to stay as it is.
With the original The Meg releasing in theaters back in 2018, it is no surprise to learn that this sequel will follow suit. After a successful run at the Box Office the first time around, the production team will be hoping for a similar outcome with ticket sales for The Meg 2.
