The release of the highly-anticipated Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel by Sony has been postponed to 2024.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony has made significant changes to the release dates of several of its upcoming films. The next Ghostbusters installment, originally scheduled for December 20, 2023, has been pushed back to March 29, 2024, taking the previous release date of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which has been indefinitely delayed. The decision to delay these films comes amidst the ongoing strikes in Hollywood.
Other films affected by the schedule changes include Kraven the Hunter, moved from October 6, 2023, to August 30, 2024; Gran Turismo, shifted from August 11, 2023, to August 25, 2023; and the next Karate Kid movie, rescheduled from June 7, 2024, to December 13, 2024. However, there is good news for Madame Web, which will now be released earlier, moving up from February 16, 2024, to February 14, 2024.
In addition to the rescheduling, Sony has announced release dates for Bad Boys 4 and Venom 3. Bad Boys 4 is set to hit theaters on June 14, 2024, while Venom 3 will follow on July 12, 2024.

Ghostbusters 4’s Delay was not So unexpected
Ernie Hudson, a long-time actor from the Ghostbusters franchise, hinted at the possibility of a delay for the untitled Afterlife sequel. He mentioned in an interview with Screen Rant that the filming had been completed, but due to challenges like the writers’ strike and other uncertainties, the studio might consider pushing the release to the end of the year or possibly to the spring of the following year. Despite the difficulties during production, Hudson expressed his gratitude that the filming process was eventually completed, and now, like everyone else, he is eagerly waiting to see the final result of the movie after post-production and editing.
The next installment in the Ghostbusters series, titled Afterlife, will be the franchise’s fourth main-series film and the fifth feature film overall if we include the 2016 reboot. The movie will be directed by Gil Kenan, who co-wrote the script alongside Jason Reitman. Notably, Jason Reitman directed the 2021 Ghostbusters film, while for Afterlife, he will be taking on the role of a co-writer alongside Kenan.
